Where to after this…

People often enter my clinic to treat some form of a pain point for them, whether its back pain, menstrual pain, anxiety, you name it, but why do they continue coming after they have gained relief?

One of the most common situations I face as an acupuncturists, is as peoples health goals near closer they start to wonder what else acupuncture can treat. Our culture is very much built on the idea that we receive treatment only when we have an issue. While that is totally understandable, it also can be the very reason we get into strife in the first place, we are taught to listen to our body and get help when something is screaming for our attention.

When you enter the acupuncture room, you’re asked to check in with yourself and see how you are doing on this day, at this time. Sometimes the response is, “I had another panic attack today”, or “I feel great but I slept badly last night” , other times you you might say “I’ve never felt better”.
Regardless of the response, its a time when we check in with our body and check if there is anything, big, small or in between that might need a little TLC. If we shift to a mindset of using therapies as check in points for maintenance, we can move to a space where we focus on preventing illness rather than curing it.

This approach can lead to a more harmonious relationship with our bodies, where we are paying attention to the subtle cues they provide.

By embracing preventative care, patients often find they experience more consistent energy levels, improved mood, and a greater sense of overall well-being. This mindset encourages individuals to nurture their health continuously, rather than waiting for discomfort to dictate their actions.

Ultimately, regular acupuncture treatments can be a powerful tool for enhancing one’s quality of life. By integrating this practice into their routine, individuals are not only addressing existing issues but also fortifying their health and resilience for the future.

So now when people ask me “what can acupuncture treat” I like to explain that it can treat conditions, it can also prevent conditions and we don’t always need a reason to get support.
